Kanodar, also spelled Kanoodar, is a small town located in the eastern part of Banaskantha District in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is located at a distance of 12 km from the district headquarters Palanpur and 118.3 km from state capital Gandhinagar. Gujarat State Highway 41, which runs from Ahmedabad to Palanpur, passes through this town.
Geography of KanodarKadodar is located at the coordinate of 24.1° North latitude and 72.38° East longitude. The town has a flat terrain and an average elevation of 170 meter (560 ft). Except for the winter the area enjoys a hot and humid climatic condition.
Summer in Kanodar starts in the middle of March and ends in the middle of June. While the average temperature during this period remains in the vicinity of 29 degree Celsius the maximum temperature can reach up to 42 degree Celsius. The monsoon starts in the end of June. The heavy precipitation is generally experienced in July and August, after which it begins to decline. October sees the return of hot weather. However, the temperature starts declining soon after and fair weather sets in by November and continues till the beginning of March.
History of KanodarAs per available records Kanodar had been a part of the Palanpur State, ruled by the Nawabs of Lohani Dynasty, since the sixteenth century AD. During the British period, it became a protectorate under the British; but the internal administration of the area remained with the Nawabs. As the country became independent in 1947 the State of Palampur became a part of free India.

Husain Tekri is the chief attraction of Kanodar. Azadari programs are held here on '22nd of Safar', which is the second month of 'Islamic calendar'. It is being organized by Anjumane Abig shade for Majlis-e-Ajaza-e-Husain since 1964. In addition to a mosque the campus holds three holy shrines; i.e. Hazarat Imam Husain, Hazarat abbas and Sani-e-Zahra. Besides, there are rooms for Zai’rin and a big shade for Majlis-e-Aja.

One Day Trips from KanodarJessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary, located at a distance of 55.8 km from the Kanodar, provides a wonderful scope for a close encounter with the sloth bears. The sanctuary is located in the lap of Araballi Hills in the northern part of Gujarat close to the border with Rajasthan. Jessore Hills, which is the second highest hill in Gujarat, runs across this sanctuary. Consequently, the sanctuary also offers great scope for camping and trekking.
Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary comprises of southern dry mixed deciduous forest and desert thorn forest. Apart from sloth bear, it also houses animals like rhesus macaque, striped hyena, Indian civet cat, langur, Indian porcupine, jackal, fox, wild boar, wolf etc. Reptiles like different species of snakes, tortoises and lizards are also to be found here. Spur fowls, barbets, cuckoos, woodpeckers, flycatchers, tree pies, shrikes, storks, cranes, spoonbills, egrets are some of the birds that can be easily spotted in this sanctuary.
Patan, located at a distance of 49.2 km from Kanodar, is also another good place to visit. If you are there do not forget to visit the Rani ki Vav, Sahastralinga Talav and Khan Sarovar. The city also has many ancient temples that are worth a visit.
Ambaji, located at a distance of 64.1 km from Kanodar is another must-visit place in Banaskantha district. It is one of the 51 Shakti Pithas in India and houses the temple of ‘Arasuri Ambaji’. Thousand of devotees visit this temple every day. Full moon is especially auspicious for this temple.
How to Reach KanodarKanodar does not have any rail or air connectivity. Palanpur Railway Junction is the nearest railhead. However, Ahmedabad, located at a distance of 133.8 km from Kanodar, is the major gateway for the town. Therefore, if you wish to visit Kanodar you must first come to Ahmedabad and then travel via GJ SH 41 to reach Kanodar. It generally takes around two and half hours to reach Kanodar from Ahmedabad by road.
